Eternal, the foodtech giant formerly known as Zomato, is expanding its footprint in the fast-growing quick commerce segment with the incorporation of a new wholly owned subsidiary – Blinkit Foods Limited. According to a recent stock exchange filing, Blinkit Foods will focus on the food services business, which includes innovation, preparation, sourcing, sale, and delivery of food products directly to customers.

This strategic move indicates Eternal’s deeper commitment to its quick commerce arm, Blinkit, which has rapidly gained traction across urban India with its 10-minute delivery promise. Although the company has not explicitly confirmed the exact scope or target segment of Blinkit Foods, industry insiders speculate that the new entity is likely to power Blinkit’s emerging food delivery service, Bistro, aimed at offering freshly prepared, ready-to-eat meals with ultra-fast delivery.

The new subsidiary, Blinkit Foods Limited, will have a proposed authorised share capital of INR 1 Cr, signaling a lean yet agile structure possibly aimed at rapid testing and scaling of food innovation within the Blinkit ecosystem. Eternal’s move aligns with the broader industry trend where quick commerce players are diversifying into value-added, high-margin food verticals to enhance profitability and customer stickiness.

As competition intensifies in the quick commerce space, offering more than just groceries has become essential. With Blinkit already delivering convenience items within minutes, the addition of fresh food and meals can significantly improve unit economics while creating a new consumer habit. The Bistro service, still in its early stages, appears to be a pilot program to test this hypothesis, and Blinkit Foods may soon become its dedicated operational backbone.

This development is part of Eternal’s broader strategy to become a full-stack food and commerce platform, covering everything from restaurant food (via Zomato) and grocery/essentials (via Blinkit) to freshly prepared meals (potentially via Blinkit Foods). With increasing demand for convenient and time-efficient food options, especially among young urban consumers, Blinkit Foods could be a game changer in the Indian quick commerce landscape.

Eternal CEO Deepinder Goyal has repeatedly highlighted the company’s vision to innovate within food services and deliver more value through tech-driven, customer-centric models. The creation of Blinkit Foods not only reflects this vision but also strengthens Eternal’s positioning in the next phase of hyperlocal delivery.
