In a significant move aimed at deepening its presence in India, Apple’s contract manufacturing partner Foxconn is reportedly planning to set up a new facility in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. This will be Foxconn’s first manufacturing plant in North India, reflecting its commitment to expanding operations and tapping into India’s growing electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
According to industry sources, Foxconn is eyeing 300 acres of land along the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida for the new plant. The project is still in its early stages, with discussions between the company and the Uttar Pradesh state government currently underway.

A Strategic Expansion into North India
Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd., is one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers and a key supplier for Apple’s iPhones and other devices. The company has been operating in South India for years, with major facilities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The planned expansion into Uttar Pradesh signals a strategic move to diversify its geographic footprint within the country.
The choice of Greater Noida is seen as a smart logistical decision, thanks to its proximity to New Delhi, robust infrastructure, and connectivity via the Yamuna Expressway and upcoming international airport at Jewar. These advantages make it a prime location for electronics manufacturing and export.
Uncertainty Around Product Line
While Foxconn has confirmed its interest in acquiring land, specific details regarding the products to be manufactured at the new plant remain undisclosed. Sources suggest that the company is yet to finalize whether the facility will produce smartphones, components, or cater to entirely new product segments.
Moreover, the target customers for the new plant have not been confirmed. Although Apple is the most prominent client for Foxconn, the new facility could also serve other global tech brands, depending on future agreements and market demand.
Boost for Make in India and Local Employment
The planned facility aligns well with the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative, which aims to transform the country into a global manufacturing hub. Uttar Pradesh, in particular, has been aggressively courting investment in the electronics sector through policies, incentives, and infrastructure development.
If approved, the Foxconn project is expected to create thousands of job opportunities in the region, further strengthening the local economy and enhancing India’s position in the global electronics supply chain.
Looking Ahead
Though still in the planning phase, Foxconn’s move to establish a plant in Greater Noida marks a crucial development in India’s electronics manufacturing landscape. Once operational, the facility could become a cornerstone for high-tech production in North India, offering new opportunities for local suppliers, engineers, and tech workers.
As Foxconn continues to expand its manufacturing capabilities in India, this potential new facility in Greater Noida could play a pivotal role in supporting Apple’s growing demand and diversifying supply chains beyond China.
Stay tuned as more details emerge about this ambitious project, which promises to reshape the future of tech manufacturing in India.
