In a significant move that strengthens India’s position in the global artificial intelligence (AI) landscape, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has officially incorporated a new entity, Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL), as part of its joint venture (JV) with Meta Platforms. The JV was first announced by RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani during the company’s 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and marks a major step towards building next-generation enterprise AI solutions in India.

According to an exchange filing, Reliance Intelligence Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of RIL, will hold a 70% stake in the newly formed entity, while Facebook Overseas Inc., a subsidiary of Meta Platforms, will own the remaining 30% stake. Both partners have jointly committed an initial investment of ₹855 crore (approximately $97.4 million) to kickstart the operations of REIL.

Focus on Enterprise AI Development

The new entity, Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL), was incorporated on October 24, 2025, and is set to focus on developing, marketing, and distributing enterprise AI services both in India and across global markets. The collaboration aims to leverage Meta’s open AI models and tools along with Reliance’s deep industry expertise, vast data infrastructure, and enterprise reach to create “sovereign AI solutions” tailored to Indian businesses and public sector needs.

As per the company’s statement, Reliance Intelligence Limited will initially invest ₹2 crore towards subscribing to 20 lakh equity shares of REIL at a face value of ₹10 each. This seed investment marks the formal beginning of what is expected to become a cornerstone of India’s enterprise AI ecosystem.

Strategic Vision: Building Sovereign AI for India

During RIL’s 48th AGM, Mukesh Ambani emphasized that the partnership with Meta will play a pivotal role in advancing India’s AI ambitions. He highlighted the importance of creating AI solutions that are not only globally competitive but also aligned with India’s data sovereignty goals. By utilizing open-source frameworks from Meta and Reliance’s technological capabilities, the JV seeks to develop secure, scalable, and indigenous enterprise AI applications.

The partnership aligns with RIL’s broader vision to integrate artificial intelligence across its core business verticals—including telecom (Jio), retail, manufacturing, and digital services—while contributing to India’s Digital India and AI-for-All initiatives.

Global and Domestic Impact

With this move, Reliance and Meta aim to position REIL as a key player in the enterprise AI sector, catering to industries such as finance, healthcare, logistics, retail, and government services. The collaboration combines Meta’s AI expertise and global reach with Reliance’s execution capabilities and local market dominance, setting the stage for innovation at scale.

Industry experts view this JV as a transformative partnership that could accelerate India’s adoption of AI technologies and establish a foundation for AI-driven digital infrastructure. As enterprise demand for automation, predictive analytics, and intelligent solutions grows, REIL’s AI offerings could redefine how Indian businesses operate in the digital economy.

Conclusion

The formation of Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL) represents a bold step in India’s AI evolution. Backed by two global powerhouses—Reliance Industries and Meta Platforms—the joint venture is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of enterprise AI solutions both in India and globally.
